Here is page one of a two-page article entitled "Baldwin Centipede Production Model, Pennsylvania RR Class BP-1 3000 HP." Drawings by Craig Bossler. It was published originally in the February 1967 issue of "Railroad Model Craftsman" magazine, page 34. Middle Photo, Revised Caption: "May 1964 photo by Tom Smith at [Frankstown], Pa., shows half the PRR Centipede fleet. Not one sample of these huge locomotives was saved." Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5814 is a BH-50 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as a passenger service BP-60 rated at 3,000 horsepower in September of 1947, later regeared and classified as a helper service BH-50 rated at 2,500 horsepower, and retired in April of 1962 after just 14 years of revenue service. |
