PRR 5889, EP-22, 1960
Description:
Chione. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken in Louisville, Kentucky, on 14 May 1960. The photographer is not identified. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5889, an EP-22 built by GM-EMD in April of 1950 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. Looks to me like its crew is in the process of pulling a passenger train out of the Louisville Station.

Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken in St. Louis, Missouri, on 5 December 1960. Prominent here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5889, #5705, and an E-7 unit whose number is not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #5889 and #5705 are EP-22's and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5889 was built in April of 1950, while #5705 was produced in September of 1952. Looks to me like they're departing with a passenger train destined for Pittsburgh and points East. ("LouisFols"; #27 of 39)
