North Platt, Nebraska, June 18, 2022, 12:44 p.m. Westbound hump track: Locomotives push freight cars up on the “hump” where the cars are released to roll down the slope and onto the right tracks to form a train bound for a specific location. Operators in the control building control track switches that turn the cars on to the proper tracks. Retarders in the track keep the cars from gaining too much speed while going down the slope. |
