The Columbus KS to Carthage MO BNSF switcher waits at the gate, under the 7th Street viaduct downtown for a northbound MT coal train on the Kansas City Southern to clear. The brakeman of ATSF 2719 will unlock the gate and activate the 10-minute signal. The crew and engine will head east to switch the Tamko Roofing plant and return to Ruth Yard on the west side of town. The plant makes asphalt shingles and covered hoppers of specialty colored sand and tank cars of asphalt are delivered daily. Today the track is part of the Missouri and Northern Arkansas |
