Album Info:I played hooky for the day, determined to see ICE/DME trains and also get a look at Savanna, IL and the track work at Clinton, IA. From Milwaukee, I drove west through Madison and Dodgeville to Prairie du Chien. It was a treat to see the ancient C&NW coaling tower west of Dodgeville along US 18, then find abandoned Milwaukee Road equipment at Prairie du Chien. Across the river is Marquette, IA, a terminus for the ex-Milwaukee Road's profitable line across northern Iowa. It is expected to find an ICE train here; and ICE 6429 and three other engines did not disappoint. I proceeded south on the Great River Road. I briefly caught up to the ICE local pulled by DME 3830 at Guttenberg. At Dubuque, besides ICE yard action, I caught Waterloo-bound CN train X337 climbing the hill westbound. The highlight of this trip was catching the previously-noted ICE 6429 through Bellevue. I took several shots from the scenic overlook just south of the town. A visit to Savanna IL found an ICE train parked eastbound east of the diamond and several BNSF trains. At Clinton, I observed a massive rail and tie replacement project. Westbounds were stacked up past Morrison waiting their turns to tip-toe through the work zone.
